Epidendrum

With more than 1000 species known, mainly from central and south America. Epidendrums seem to divide into two categories: those with oval pseudobulbs, and those that produce reed like stems. A common factor in most is that the flower spike develops from the top of the pseudobulb and the individual flowers open in succession a few at a time. Cultural conditions are widely varied, but most species will grow well under intermediate conditions.
