From Mexico to Nicaragua, the species have a creeping rhizome with thin, grass like leaves. The inflorescences are produced singly on the most recently matured pseudobulb. The flowers are blood red with a yellow labellum spotted with deep red. The flowers produce a strong coconut fragrance. Warm to intermediate condition with bright light and good ventilation. Flowering season is from March to May
