The largest genus of orchids with over 1200 species. Most species occur in the rain forests of southeast Asia, particularly New Guinea and also in all tropical areas on earth. The genus vegetative growth habit and flower size and shape are varied. The flowers range from several centimeters to a millimeter in diameter, most flowers are quite small. The plants are sympodial with one or two leaves, the pseudobulbs spaced closely or at some distance along the rhizome. Most bulbos may generally be grown in diffuse light and under warm to intermediate temperatures with high humidity but lot of air movement.
